Enrol online

Section 14 of the Northern Territory (Self Government) Act 1978 provides for the Northern Territory electoral roll to be managed in accordance with the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) maintains the electoral roll in the Northern Territory. When your details are updated, an acknowledgment letter is mailed to you. This letter is proof of your enrolment and shows your federal division, your NT Legislative Assembly division and your NT Local Government (Council) area.

NOTE: You only need to complete the one form to enrol yourself for all levels of government in the Northern Territory.

Eligibility for enrolment

You are eligible to enrol if you:

  • are an Australian citizen, or eligible British subject
  • are aged 18 years and over
  • have lived at your address for at least one month.

If you are 16 or 17 you can enrol now so when you turn 18 you'll be able to vote.

Direct enrolment and update

Laws passed by the Australian Parliament allow the AEC to directly enrol you or update your details on the electoral roll based on information from other government agencies. Direct enrolment and update does not affect everyone. Therefore it's important you maintain your electoral enrolment details each time you move.
