The NT Electoral Commission provides electoral services, education programs and counter services to the public. Whilst carrying out its functions, electoral commission staff may come into contact with vulnerable people.

From 13 November 2021, all NTPS employees subject to the Chief Health Officer Directions No.55 of 2021 are required to provide evidence of at least one dose of an approved COVID 19 vaccination and evidence of two doses completed by 24 December 2021 except in circumstances where there is a medical exemption.

Chief Health Officer Directions No.55 of 2021 applies to all NT Electoral Commission staff.

The Northern Territory Electoral Commission maintains a register of people who are interested in temporary employment for electoral activities and events.

Positions include: electoral officials in voting centres, mobile voting team members, and office administrative support officers. This may involve working at Northern Territory Legislative Assembly and local government elections, citizenship ceremonies, and community engagement activities.

No prior electoral experience is necessary. All temporary positions receive training. Depending on the position and circumstances, employment may involve working during business hours, weekends, after hours, or for extended periods; including travel to remote locations.

Pay is based on a package or hourly rate depending on expected hours and type of work. Some positions are available in regional centres or may involve travelling in remote locations.

It is important to note that electoral commission employees cannot be, or seen to be, politically active.

To apply for a temporary position, complete an expression of interest for employment form. The form is an expression of interest only, and if suitable, you will be contacted for a short interview. Completing the form does not in any way guarantee that the commission will consider you for, or offer you, employment.

If you agree, your details can be forwarded to the Australian Electoral Commission for consideration to work at federal elections.
