Division of Araluen

History of name

The division was created following the 1983 redistribution. It is named after ‘Araluen’, the residence of the late E J Connellan, a pioneer of aviation in the Northern Territory, whose homestead was on the west side of town. It is believed to be an Aboriginal name meaning ‘the place of lagoons and water lilies and running water’.

Location

The division of Araluen includes Alice Springs suburbs of Desert Springs, The Gap, and Gillen, as well as most of the suburb of Araluen.
