After an election, records are checked. If it appears you have not voted you might receive an apparent failure to vote notice.
An apparent failure to vote notice provides the opportunity to say whether you did or didn’t vote, or why you didn’t vote.
If you receive this notice, you need to respond in writing via the following options:
If you do not respond to the apparent failure to vote notice, or your excuse is deemed insufficient, you will receive an infringement notice. This is a fine for not voting.
The penalty for not voting is a $25 fee. You must respond within 28 days of the issue date of the notice.
You can pay your fee online on our secure payment webpage. You will need your VISA or Mastercard details and your Elector ID which is the reference number. Your Elector ID is located under the barcode on your notice.
To pay your fee over the phone, call 1300 495 740 and follow the prompts. You will need your VISA or Mastercard details and your Elector ID which is the reference number. Your Elector ID is located under the barcode on your notice.
Note: The amount must be entered as 2500#
BPAY payments must be made through your bank quoting the Biller Code 100354 and your Elector ID which is the reference number. Your Elector ID is located under the barcode on your notice.
The payment must be for the exact amount as shown on the notice. If you pay more or less than the amount shown, your payment will not be accepted and will be returned.
Pay by cheque or money order using the reply paid envelope.
