2024 Territory Election: Financial disclosure prior to early voting gift returns and 2023/2024 annual gift returns

The election gift returns (prior to the commencement of early voting) covering the period 1 July to 1 August 2024 were due on 6 August 2024.

Registered political parties, candidates, associated entities and third party campaigners must disclose the number of donors and the total gift amount received, covering both monetary contributions and gifts-in-kind.

Candidates' obligation to submit returns commences once they have publicly announced their candidacy or are declared as candidates at the declaration of nominations. As a result, only candidates who had publicly declared their candidacy by 1 August 2024 were required to submit returns during this period.

All candidates declared at the declaration of nominations on 8 August 2024 must submit the next gift return, due on 21 August 2024.

Gifts to be disclosed are dependent on the type of electoral participant:

• Parties and associated entities: Must disclose all gifts received.
• Candidates: Must disclose gifts received solely or substantially for a purpose related to the election.
• Third party campaigners: Must disclose gifts specified by the donor to be used as political expenditure or gifts that the third party campaigner believes the donor intends as political expenditure.

The 2023/2024 Annual Gift Returns have also been published, covering gifts from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024; this period matches the previously reported election gift returns. Returns can be viewed here.
