With voting in the federal election now complete, attention turns to the Northern Territory 2025 Local Government Elections, with just 100 days until Territorians vote to elect their council representatives.
NT Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly is encouraging Territorians to make sure they are ready to have their say.
“Local councils are the closest level of government to the community, making decisions that shape everyday lives - from pools and sporting fields to roads and footpaths,” Ms Kelly said.
“If you’re 18 or over, make sure your enrolment is up to date and include your contact details so we can send you a reminder when it’s time to vote.” If you will be turning 18 on or before election day you can enrol now to vote in this year’s local government election.
Territorians have until 5pm on Tuesday 22 July 2025 to enrol or update their details on the Australian Electoral Commission website.
Elections will be held in 15 of the 18 Territory councils to elect local council representatives.
Voting options include early and mobile voting from Monday 11 August 2025, election day voting on Saturday 23 August 2025 and postal voting, with postal voting applications available from 23 May 2025.
