Nominations are now open for the 2025 Local Government Supplementary Elections.
Following the recent Local Government Council elections, supplementary elections will be held in 6 council wards where there were insufficient candidates for councillor vacancies:
Nominations close strictly at 12 noon on Thursday 6 November 2025. Late nominations cannot be accepted.
NT Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly encouraged potential candidates to act early and make use of available resources.
'The NT Electoral Commission website includes information for potential candidates about the nomination process and our team is available to answer any questions' said Ms Kelly.
Potential candidates are encouraged to contact council to learn more about the role and responsibilities of a councillor.
The official declaration of nominations and draw for position on the ballot paper will take place on Friday 7 November 2025 at 12 noon.

It is a requirement that the electoral roll used for the 2025 Local Government Elections is used for the supplementary elections, the close of roll was 22 July 2025.
Electors for the supplementary elections must be enrolled or have an entitlement to vote at the close of roll.
Postal vote applications for the supplementary elections are now open.
Voting in local government council elections in the Northern Territory is compulsory.
