Declaration of Nominations and ballot draw - 2025 Local Government Elections

The Northern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC) has today declared the candidates for the 2025 Local Government Elections and draw for ballot paper order.

A total of 271 nominations have been accepted across 54 elections to fill 144 vacancies in the 16 local government councils participating in 2025 Local Government Elections.

Following the declaration:

  • 34 elections will proceed to voting.
  • 14 elections were uncontested meaning the number of candidates matched the number of available positions. Those candidates have been declared elected and voters in those wards will not be required to vote.
  • 5 elections partially failed, having received fewer nominations than vacancies. These elections will not proceed to voting and supplementary elections will be scheduled later.

Additionally, an outcome of the Litchfield North Ward councillor election cannot be determined until the conclusion of the election for the Litchfield Mayor vacancy due to a candidate contesting both the mayor and councillor elections.

Northern Territory Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly stated:

'Details of all candidates are now available on the NTEC website, this includes candidates who have been declared elected and those contesting elections, the NT Electoral Commission will now update the remote voting schedule following the declaration of nominations.'
