2026 Mulka by-election - Counting finished for the night

Counting in the Mulka by-election has finished for the night.

The results from the initial count are as follows (in ballot paper order):

• Andrew BLAMEY with 541 votes
• Yiwarr MCGRATH with 1,865 votes

Votes issued today and during the early voting period were counted this evening.

77 postal votes remain outstanding to be returned over the next 13 days. The deadline for receipt by the NTEC of outstanding postal votes is 12pm on Friday 25 September. 

32 postal votes which have been returned, have been kept back to maintain the secrecy of the vote, these postal votes will be included in the final postal vote counts following the deadline for receipt of postal votes. 

65 declaration votes have been issued and following a verification process may be admitted to the final count. 

The 13-day count period has now commenced. 

On Monday 14 September, a re-check of all ballot papers counted tonight will take place at the NTEC office scrutiny centre.
