2026 Nightcliff By-election: voting closed counting begins

907 eligible voters in the Division of Nightcliff cast their vote today at the election day voting centre located at Nightcliff High School.

During the early voting period 2,657 votes have been cast at the early voting centre or mobile voting service. 441 postal votes have been issued.

Counting has commenced at 2 scrutiny centres including the NT Electoral Commission Office (NTEC) and Nightcliff High School.

Results will be published during the evening on the NTEC website.

The scrutiny centre at Nightcliff High School will count election day votes and the scrutiny centre at the NTEC office will count votes cast during early voting and postal votes returned so far and admitted to the count.

The 13 day count period has commenced and will continue until the deadline for the NTEC to receive postal votes before 12pm Friday 20 March. During the count period returned and admitted postal votes and accepted declaration votes will be added to the count.

On Monday 9 March a check count or fresh scrutiny will commence with all ballot papers counted on election night reviewed at the NTEC office scrutiny centre.

Candidates can appoint scrutineers to observe the count process.
