Scrutiny and count information

Scrutiny of votes cast in the 2026 MacDonnell Regional Council Luritja Pintubi Ward and West Arnhem Regional Council Kakadu Ward by‑elections will take place according to the schedule below.

Election day count - 24 April 2026

Scrutineers attending the counts are to be registered and present scrutineer appointment forms by 5:40pm, with briefing commencing at 5:45pm.

Counts will be undertaken in following order:

• Mobile team West Arnhem - Kakadu Ward
• Mobile team MacDonnell - Luritja Pintubi Ward
• Postal 1 – MacDonnell Luritja Pintubi Ward – to be confirmed (dependent on number of returned postal votes)
• Postal 1 – West Arnhem Kakadu Ward – to be confirmed (dependent on number of returned postal votes)

Results of initial counts undertaken on election night will be published on the NTEC website.

Fresh scrutiny

Fresh scrutiny of the election day counts will take place on Monday 27 April commencing 9am.

Scrutineers attending the counts are to be registered and present scrutineer appointment forms by 8:40am, with briefing commencing at 8:45am.

Fresh scrutinies to be undertaken:

• Mobile team West Arnhem - Kakadu Ward
• Mobile team MacDonnell - Luritja Pintubi Ward
• Postal 1 - MacDonnell Luritja Pintubi Ward – to be confirmed (dependent on number of returned postal votes)
• Postal 1 - West Arnhem Kakadu Ward – to be confirmed (dependent on number of returned postal votes)

The final count and distribution of preferences will take place on Thursday 7 May. The results will be declared on Friday 8 May.
