Political disclosure returns released - Johnston by-election and 2020 Territory election

Political disclosure returns for registered political parties, associated entities, third party campaigners and candidates were released by the Northern Territory Electoral Commission today.

“Because of the changes to the electoral act which came into force on 1 January 2020 people will notice some differences with the returns,” NTEC Commissioner Iain Loganathan said.

Following the introduction of the amendments, the NTEC has released a half-year election return for the period 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2019.

“Under the legislation changes, disclosure requirements for registered political parties, associated entities and the new third party campaigner, have increased in general election years,” Mr Loganathan said.

The calling of the Johnston by-election in a general election year has further increased those disclosure reporting requirements.

Therefore, on the NTEC website there are two sets of figures that have been published. Disclosure for the period 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2019 and 1 July 2019 to 6 February 2020, which is required because of the Johnston by-election and also includes third party campaigners.

For general enquiries regarding the disclosure returns, please contact the NTEC.

Specific enquiries about a particular disclosure return should be directed to the relevant political party, associated entity or third party campaigner.
