Early voters have their say 2021 Local Government Elections

Following a stalled early voting period courtesy of the recent COVID-19 lockdown, electors across the Territory have been turning out to have their say in the 2021 Local Government Elections.

At the close of voting today, figures reported to the NTEC showed 18,167 or 12.7 per cent of electors had cast their vote early.

To compensate for the lost time due to the lockdown all early voting centres will be open from 8am until 6pm for the next 4 days before election day on Saturday 28 August.

The location of Territory early voting centres can be found here. Electoral Commissioner Iain Loganathan said that electors can vote at any early voting centre.

“It doesn’t matter which council area you are enrolled in, you can vote at any of the early voting centres until Friday,” Mr Loganathan said.

To make their vote count electors must remember to put a number in every box on the ballot paper in the order of their preference.

All voting centres will be adhering to COVID-19 management guidelines and electors must remember to wear a mask and check-in through the Territory app when they attend a centre.

Pencils are also being provided to electors, or if they prefer they can bring their own.
