Final count complete in 2021 Local Government Elections

Counting in the 2021 Local Government Elections has finished.

The final results are available on the NTEC website here.

Earlier today the Electoral Commission counted the final postal votes that were received before 12pm prior to conducting the distribution of preferences to determine the results in undecided elections.

Overall turnout for the 2021 elections increased from 58.5 per cent in 2017 to 61.4 percent.

From a total of 130,461 electors who were eligible to vote in the 2021 elections, 80,112 turned out.

The total figure included 5,775 postal votes, 1,197 declaration votes and 37,428 early votes.

Electoral Commissioner Iain Loganathan said that while the increase in turnout was heartening, the final figure shows that too many electors remain disengaged with democracy.

“People only get one chance every four years to have their say in local government elections and it’s a pity that more electors don’t take the opportunity,” Mr Loganathan said.

“The more people vote, the more our councils and governing bodies become representative of our society.”
