Election day is this Saturday for the Alice Springs Town Council by-election.
Voting is available on election day from 8am to 6pm at six voting centre locations including; the Andy McNeill room, Blatherskite Park, Braitling Primary School, Centralian Secondary College, Gillen Primary School and Living Waters Lutheran School.
Early voting is still open at the Andy McNeill room, for the following times:
Alice Springs residents in Darwin this week can also visit the NT Electoral Commission office to cast an early vote.
The early voting centre has received on average 500 voters per day, which is consistent with the 2021 Local Government Elections for Alice Springs.
The NT Electoral Commission has also received 1,044 postal vote applications and issued 931 postal vote packs, and a total of 47 postal votes have been returned.
Local postal vote applications remain open for electors that are unable to vote in-personat a voting centre. Applications close tomorrow at 6pm.
As of 5pm on Tuesday 25 October, a total of 9.59% of electors had voted in the Alice Springs Town Council by-election. Turnout at the last election for the councillor position in Alice Springs was 65.1%.
Around 120 residents have participated in the by-election by advising the NT Electoral Commission that they are unable to vote providing a valid reason, which includes being interstate or overseas during the voting period with no fixed address to receive a postal vote pack.
The Deputy NT Electoral Commissioner, Kirsten Kelly, is reminding electors to make sure their vote counts in the Alice Springs Town Council by-election.
“Although the current voter turnout has been positive, Alice Springs voters are reminded that as of today there are only three early voting days left before election day this Saturday” said Kirsten Kelly.
“Election day is fast approaching and I encourage voters to attend either the early voting centre or an election day voting centre and make sure their vote counts in the Alice Springs Town Council by-election” said Kirsten Kelly.
Voting in local government by-elections is compulsory in the Northern Territory.
