Alice Springs Town Council by-election: Election night counting complete

Counting in the Alice Springs Town Council by-election has finished for the night.

Gavin Morris with 2,318 votes leads Sean Heenan with 2,301 votes, and Hugo Wells sits third on 1,568 votes.

All early, election day and returned postal votes have been counted.
In total, 7,520 of the 16,121 eligible electors voted in the by-election. This represents 47 per cent of the Alice Springs Town Council area.

“Turnout for Alice Springs in the 2021 Local Government Elections was 65 per cent.  Just over a year later, significantly less people voted in this by-election” said Deputy Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly.

There remains 800 postal votes to be returned to the NT Electoral Commission over the next 13 days, in addition to declaration votes yet to be added to the count.

A fresh scrutiny of tonight’s count will commence on Monday 31 October 2022.
