Central Desert Council Anmatjere ward by-election: Nominations open

The Central Desert Council Anmatjere ward by-election has been announced and voting will take place from Tuesday 22 to Thursday 24 November 2022.

Voting will be available at the Engawala, Laramba, Ti Tree, and Yuelamu council offices.

In addition, the NT Electoral Commission will conducting mobile voting at Mulga Bore, Nturiya, Pmara Jutunta and Wilora.

All Anmatjere residents should check they are correctly enrolled before the roll closes at 5pm Wednesday 2 November.

The NT Electoral Commission are working closely with the Central Desert Council to raise awareness and encourage voter participation in the by-election.

There is one vacancy for position of councillor in the Central Desert Council, Anmatjere ward by-election.

Candidate nominations are now open and will close at 12 noon on Friday 2 November, no late nominations will be accepted.

Information regarding the process for nominating is available on the NT Electoral Commission website.

The Electoral Commissioner Iain Loganathan recommends potential applicants make themselves aware of their obligations, rights and eligibility to become a candidate.

"There are a number of resources available to potential candidates on the NT Electoral Commission website and the Local Government Association of the NT” said Iain Loganathan.

“I also recommend potential applicants contact the Central Desert Council to discuss the role and responsibilities of councillor.”

Voting is compulsory.
