Failure to vote notices sent: Fannie Bay by-election

The Northern Territory Electoral Commission have sent infringement notices to 1542 electors that failed to vote in the Division of Fannie Bay by-election on 20 August 2022.

Only 63 per cent of electors voted in the Fannie Bay by-election.

NT Electoral Commissioner Iain Loganathan said the voter turnout was “extremely disappointing”.

“As an urban division a much higher turnout was expected for the division of Fannie Bay” Mr Loganathan said.

Voting is Northern Territory is compulsory and electors must vote unless they have a valid and sufficient reason for not voting.

Electors that did not vote and don’t have a sufficient reason must pay a fee of $25 by 13 October 2022.

If an elector does not pay the fee by 13 October 2022, NT Electoral Commission may refer the matter to court.
