Arafura by-election: Declaration of result

The Northern Territory Electoral Commission has officially declared the result for the Arafura by-election.

A fresh scrutiny of the ballot papers counted on Saturday night was conducted this morning at 10:00am and Manuel Brown received a total of 1,868 first preference votes. As the margin between Mr Brown and the next candidate, Leslie Tungatalum, is over 1,000 votes, this by-election can be declared early. The remaining 72 postal and 272 declaration votes yet to be admitted, will not affect the outcome.

The declaration of results for this by-election was held at the NTEC Darwin office at 3:00 pm this afternoon where Manuel Brown was declared duly elected.
