This is the final week of voting in the Arafura by-election. At the close of rolls there were 5,549 electors in the Division of Arafura.
This week mobile voting teams will poll in the Tiwi Islands, Gunbalanya, Maningrida and Jabiru. There are approximately 4,640 enrolled electors in these communities.
Last week the mobile voting teams visited 12 smaller communities and outstations with a total enrolment number of 691. 283 votes were issued which included a turnout of 44.91% turnout in Minjilang, 45.88% turnout in Warruwi and 68.75% turnout in Mamadawerre.
126 postal votes have been sent to electors.
Arafura electors who are unsure of whether they are enrolled are encouraged to attend a voting centre, where they may be still entitled to enrol and vote in the
by-election.
“In the 2020 Territory Election Arafura had the lowest turnout of any electorate with 52.7%, Maningrida had a turnout of just 28%” said Iain Loganathan
“The voting time for Maningrida has been increased from two days at the 2020 election to five days for the by-election, giving residents more opportunity to vote”.
The NT Electoral Commissioner, Iain Loganathan is reminding Arafura electors to make sure their vote counts in the final week of voting for the by-election.
