By-elections have been announced for the Barkly Regional Council.
There are two vacancies for position of councillor in the Patta Ward and two vacancies for position of councillor in the Alyawarr Ward.
Candidate nominations are now open and will close at 12 noon on Thursday 6 April 2023, no late nominations will be accepted. A candidate information session was held on 22 March 2023 at the Barkly Regional Council chambers and was well attended.

The Electoral Commissioner Iain Loganathan is encouraging anyone who is interested in nominating as a candidate to make sure they are aware of the nomination process and eligibility requirements.
"There are a number of resources available to potential candidates on our website and I encourage anyone who is interested to contact the NT Electoral Commission for more information” said Iain Loganathan.
“I also recommend anyone thinking of nominating to be a candidate to contact the Barkly Regional Council to discuss the role and responsibilities of a councillor.”
Voting for the Barkly Regional Council, Patta Ward and Alyawarr Ward by-election will occur from 24 April to 6 May.
All residents in Patta Ward and Alyawarr Ward should check they are correctly enrolled before the roll closes at 5pm on Thursday 30 March 2023.
The NT Electoral Commission is working closely with the Barkly Regional Council to raise awareness and encourage voter participation in the by-elections.
