Barkly Regional Council, Patta Ward by-election: Voting closed

Voting in the Barkly Regional Council, Patta Ward by-election has now closed.

Initial counts for the Patta Ward by-election commenced at 6pm today at the Barkly Regional Council Chambers.

In total 606 electors have cast their votes in the by-election at early voting and mobile voting centres including votes cast today at the Council Chambers.

A further 110 postal votes have been issued with 13 postal votes returned. The deadline for receipt of postal votes is 12 noon on Friday 18 May 2023. 47 declaration votes were issued for this by-election.

“Significantly less electors in the Patta Ward have voted in this by-election compared to the 2021 Local Government Election where the participation rate was 54.2%. In this by-election, the current participation rate including votes cast during the voting period, declaration votes and returned postal votes is 36.2%” said Iain Loganathan, NT Electoral Commissioner.

The result for the Patta Ward by-election will be published on the NT Electoral Commission website.

The final counts and distribution of preferences will be held from 12 noon on Friday 19 May 2023.
