Counting in the Roper Gulf Regional Council, Never Never Ward by-election has finished for the night.
The results of the first preference count are as follows (in ballot paper order):
A total of 251 votes were counted tonight representing a turnout of 27.3%.
Early votes, postal votes and declaration votes are yet to be counted.
A fresh scrutiny of all votes counted tonight will take place on the morning of Monday 9 October.
There remains 51 postal votes to be returned to the NT Electoral Commission over the next 13 days, in addition to 2 early votes, and 6 declaration votes which may be admitted to the count.
Final counts will occur from 12 noon on Thursday 19 October. The distribution of preferences will take place after the final postal count.
