2024 Barkly Regional Council General Election: Counting finished for the night

Counting in the 2024 Barkly Regional Council general election has finished for the night.

An initial count including early votes, remote mobile votes and election day votes have been counted this evening.

The results from the initial count in the order that the candidate appears on the ballot paper are as follows:

Greg MARLOW - 172 votes
Valda Napurrula SHANNON – 65 votes
Nungarayi Shirley LEWIS – 13 votes
Sid VASHIST – 675 votes
Dianne STOKES – 57 votes
Barb SHAW – 237 votes

Councillor Positions

Patta ward: (5 vacancies)
Valda Napurrula SHANNON – 96 votes
Dianne STOKES – 96 votes
Pennie COWIN – 57 votes
Greg MARLOW – 264 votes
Nungarayi Shirley LEWIS – 72 votes
Sharen LAKE – 155 votes

Kuwarrangu ward: (2 vacancies)
Angela SAMMON – 37 votes
Lennie BARTON – 52 votes
Ben NEADE – 50 votes

Alpurrurulam ward: (1 vacancy)
Valerie CAMPBELL – 28 votes
Pamela CORBETT – 17 votes

19 postal votes have been returned with a further 149 to be returned to the NT Electoral Commission over the next 13 days, in addition to 81 declaration votes to be verified and potentially included in the count.

The initial count of declaration votes will take place on Monday 11 November and the initial count of postal votes will occur on Friday 15 November. A small number of votes were cast at the Darwin Early Voting Centre, to ensure secrecy, these votes will be amalgamated with other initial counts.

Ballot papers counted this evening will undergo further scrutiny with all ballot papers to be data entered and verified through electronic count software Easy Count. This includes both mayor and councillor ballot papers and will commence from Wednesday 6 November in the NT Electoral Commission office in Darwin.

The results of all initial counts will be published on the NTEC website following the completion of each count. The final results will be published following the distribution of preferences which will occur from 3 pm on Friday 15 November.
