The Barkly Regional Council general election has been announced. Elections will be held for the position of Mayor and 12 councillors across four wards including:
Candidate nominations opened today and will close at 12 noon on Thursday 10 October. No late nominations will be accepted.
The NT Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly is encouraging anyone who is interested in nominating as a candidate to make sure they are aware of the nomination process and eligibility requirements.
"There are a number of resources available on the NTEC website to support potential candidates and I encourage anyone who is interested to contact the NT Electoral Commission with any questions and for more information,” said Kirsten Kelly.
The declaration of nominations and draw for candidate position on the ballot papers will take place on Friday 11 October.
Remote voting for the Barkly Regional Council election will take place from Monday 21 October until Friday 1 November.
Early voting will take place at the Civic Hall Tennant Creek between Monday 21 October to Friday 1 November.
Election day voting is on Saturday 2 November at the Civic Hall from 8am to 6pm.
To accommodate electors unable to vote in person, postal vote applications are now open and will close at the following times:
Barkly Regional Council residents should check they are correctly enrolled before the roll closes at 5pm on Tuesday 1 October.
The NT Electoral Commission is working with the Barkly Regional Council to raise awareness and encourage voter participation in the election.
