Today, over 3,643 returned postal votes were counted, in addition to remaining early votes carried over from election night.
In total, 88,221 ballot papers have now been counted in the 2024 Territory Election, representing a voter turnout of 57.6%.
There remains over 4,727 postal votes to be returned to the NT Electoral Commission before the deadline for receipt of postal votes at 12 noon on Friday 6 September.
NT Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly noted that voter turnout is lower than in previous general elections.
“We always like to see an increase in voter turnout at elections, acknowledging that the addition of over 12,000 Territorians on the electoral roll could impact voter turnout at this election.”
“I would like to recognise Territorians that voted in the 2024 Territory Election and thank the NT Electoral Commission team, including over 400 casual staff that supported the election,” said Kirsten Kelly.
Tomorrow, the NT Electoral Commission will finalise the processing of absent and declaration votes prior to the exchange. A list of absent and declaration votes to be counted by division will be available on the website.
In addition, at 9am a check of all counts will commence at the Eaton and Alice Springs scrutiny centres. This will include the reset of two-candidate preferred counts for the divisions of Braitling, Johnston, Fannie Bay and Katherine, with other divisions being monitored.
