Counting has commenced for the 2025 Supplementary elections with early, remote and election day votes being counted.

Supplementary elections were held to fill single vacancies following the 2025 Local Government Elections in six local government council wards. Following the declaration of candidates, elections were only required in three wards being Litchfield Council (North Ward), West Arnhem Regional Council (Kakadu and Gunbalanya Wards).

Results will be progressively updated throughout the evening on the NT Electoral Commission website.

The NT Electoral Commission office is a scrutiny centre and will count votes cast at all early voting centres and remote mobile services. The Whitewood Hall election day voting centre will become a scrutiny centre and count votes cast today (election day).

The election night count is a preliminary count, with further scrutiny of all ballot papers to begin on Monday, 1 December.

Acting Deputy Electoral Commissioner Kostas Trikilis stated:

"The 13-day count period has now commenced and will continue to Friday 12 December. This is the deadline for receipt of postal votes (12 noon) and the final count before the distribution of preferences".

From Monday 1 December, a check count or fresh scrutiny of all ballot papers will begin where all ballot papers counted tonight will be reviewed.

During the count period returned postal votes, absent votes and accepted declaration votes will be added to the count. Scrutineers can observe the count process” Mr Trikilis said.
