2026 City of Darwin Chan Ward By-election

The voting period for the Chan Ward By-election has now ended and the 13-day count period has begun. You can download the count schedule PDF (98.8 KB) and view the Results.

All completed postal votes must be received by NTEC no later than 12noon on Friday 12 June.

The final count and distribution of preferences will take place from 1pm on Friday 12 June 2026.

Results will be updated at the conclusion of this activity.

The declaration of result is scheduled for 10am on Monday 15 June 2026.

Candidates, media representatives and members of the public are invited to attend.

Those interested in attending may do so via the following options:

  • In-Person: NT Electoral Commission, Level 3, TCG Centre, 80 Mitchell Street, Darwin
  • Online: Microsoft Teams

The Chan Ward is made up of the suburbs of Ludmilla, East Point, Fannie Bay, Nightcliff, Coconut Grove, Millner, Rapid Creek and Jingili.

The Local Government Act 2019 and Local Government (Electoral) Regulations 2021 outline the procedures for conducting local government elections and by-elections to fill casual vacancies.
