The NT Electoral Commission has today declared candidates for the Groote Archipelago Regional Council Election.
At 2.30pm today, following the declaration of nominations, a draw was held to determine the candidates position on the ballot paper. The draw was held at the NT Electoral Commission office in Darwin with candidates and stakeholders invited to attend in person or online.
There are 7 vacancies for positions of councillor in the Groote Archipelago Regional Council election. 9 candidates were declared across the 3 wards.
Candidates for the Groote Archipelago Regional Council election, in ballot paper order are as follows:
Central Ward (3 vacancies):
East Ward (2 vacancies) and West Ward (2 vacancies):
Two nominations were received and accepted for the position of councillor for both the East Ward and West Ward.
As the number of candidates nominated does not exceed the number of vacancies to be filled, the following candidates are declared elected in accordance with Regulation 10(5) of the Local Government (Electoral) Regulations 2021.

Remote voting services will be provided in the Central Ward from 10 March.
To accommodate electors unable to vote in person, postal vote applications are now open and will close at the following times:
Early voting is available at the NT Electoral Commission office in Darwin weekdays from Monday 3 March to Friday 14 March.
“With the voting period fast approaching, residents in the Groote Archipelago Regional Council area are encouraged to plan when and where they will be voting,” said NT Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly.
“Electors enrolled in the East Ward and West Ward are not required to vote in this election,”
“Electors wanting more information about voting services in community can visit the NTEC website or contact the NT Electoral Commission office or Groote Archipelago Regional Council for information.”

Voting in the Groote Archipelago Regional Council election is compulsory.
