2024 Territory Election: Five days of early voting before election day

With the first week of the two week early voting period now complete, the NT Electoral Commission (NTEC) is encouraging voters who have not yet cast their vote in the 2024 Territory Election to plan where they will vote and take action.

There are just five days of early voting remaining before election day on Saturday 24 August.

Across the Territory, 11 early voting centres are currently open, including a newly added early voting centre at Berry Springs Shopping Village.

Early voting centres will operate this week from Monday to Thursday between 8:00am and 5:00pm, with extended hours on Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Voters can cast their vote at any early voting centre without needing to provide a reason for early voting.

So far, over 40,200 votes have been cast at early voting centres and at remote mobile voting services, surpassing the 37,300 votes recorded at this stage in the 2020 election. The enrolment at close of rolls is 153,250, reflecting an increase from 141,225 in 2020.

To date, more than 7,930 postal votes have been issued, compared to a total of over 10,344 issued in 2020. Over 3,300 votes have already been cast in remote areas, supported by 16 remote voting teams operating across the Territory.

Kirsten Kelly, NT Electoral Commissioner, commented, “It is positive to see such a strong turnout during the first week of early voting. The numbers at this stage reflect a continued trend towards early voting, which increased from 36.2% in 2016 to 53.4% in 2020. With more early voting centres available for this election, Territorians can continue to take advantage of this convenient option this week.”

As the final days of early voting approach, the NTEC encourages all eligible voters to plan where they will vote for the 2024 Territory Election.
