The election period has started today with the issue of the writ for the 2024 Territory Election.
The writ authorises the NT Electoral Commission (NTEC) to conduct the election in accordance with the Electoral Act 2004.
On receiving the writ the Commission is required to endorse the date of receipt and give public notice of the issue of the writ and details of dates relating to the election. A copy of the writ is available here on the NTEC website.
Nominations for candidates for election open today (Thursday 1 August) and close at 12 noon on Thursday 8 August for party and independent candidates. No late nominations will be accepted.
Candidate nominations forms are available on the NTEC website and can also be collected from the NTEC offices in Darwin and Alice Springs.
The electoral roll for the 2024 Territory Election closes tomorrow at 5pm (Friday 2 August).
NT Electoral Commissioner Kirsten Kelly said that with the electoral roll closing tomorrow, people should take the time to check they are correctly enrolled to vote in the 2024 Territory Election before 5pm tomorrow.
“Being correctly enrolled is the first step in taking part in the 2024 Territory Election, and all Territorians are encouraged to check their enrolment details are correct,” Ms Kelly said.
Enrolment details can easily be checked and updated online at the Australian Electoral Commission or NTEC websites.
Territorians can also contact the NTEC office by phone if they require assistance to check their enrolment details.
Territorians can enrol to vote or update their details until the close of the rolls at 5pm, Friday 2 August.
Early voting and mobile voting services for the 2024 Territory Election commence on Monday 12 August with election day on Saturday 24 August.
