Information for voters

Enrolment

Enrolment is compulsory for Territorians aged 18 years or over.

The Australian Electoral Commission manages the electoral roll.

You may have been automatically enrolled to vote by the Australian Electoral Commission.

It is important to check if you are enrolled and that your enrolment details are correct before Friday 2 August 2024.

If you are enrolled and do not vote you may be fined.

It's compulsory to enrol and vote if you:

  • are an Australian citizen or eligible British subject
  • are aged 18 years or over
  • have lived at your address for at least one month

If you are aged 16 or 17, you can provisionally enrol and this means you can vote as soon as you turn 18.

You can check your electoral enrolment by entering your details on the Australian Electoral Commission's website

You can enrol or update your enrolment via the following:

  • Enrol online (enrol for the first time or get back on the roll)
  • Update my enrolment online (if you have moved house, changed your name or want to update your contact details)
  • Print an enrolment form
  • Receive an enrolment form:
    • Visit the NT Electoral Commission Darwin office or contact us
    • Visit any regional council office

Voting

Election day will be on Saturday 24 August 2024.

Early voting will be available.

Voting services will be provided across the Northern Territory, more information regarding locations and times will be provided on this page once confirmed.

If you are unable to vote at a voting centre, you can apply for a postal vote from Monday 1 January 2024.

Voters can apply to receive a postal vote for the 2024 Territory Election from 1 January 2024.

Electors who are already registered postal voters do not need to need to make a separate postal vote application and will receive a postal vote for the election.
