Campaigning is prohibited within 10 metres from the entrance to an early voting centre, but the NT Electoral Commission (NTEC) may also designate an alternative prohibition zone.
If campaigning is not permitted, a pamphlet holder will be made available for campaign material (e.g. how to vote cards) for candidates in divisions determined by the NTEC
Alice Springs - Alice Plaza | Berry Springs - Berry Springs Shopping Centre | Casuarina - Casuarina Shopping Square | Coolalinga - Coolalinga Central |
Darwin City - Darwin Entertainment Centre | Eaton - Eaton - NTEC offsite premises | Katherine - Katherine Central Shopping Centre | Palmerston - Palmerston Shopping Centre |
Tennant Creek - Tennant Creek Civic Hall | Yarrawonga - Gateway Shopping Centre |
A 100m prohibition of canvassing zone applies to all election day voting centres across the Territory. The NTEC may designate an alternative prohibition zone. Canvassing for votes of any kind is not permitted within the prohibition zone. No campaign material can be placed on fences or road verges and footpaths within the prohibition zone.
A designated campaign area (DCA) is a place where campaigning activity is allowed within the prohibition zone at election day voting centres. The Electoral Act 2004 allows the NTEC to designate an area to be a DCA in a place where campaigning activity is permitted.
The DCA is to provide voters with the option to access campaigners and campaign materials within the prohibited zone, it must be in an area that is avoidable by voters who do not wish to engage with campaigners.
