Voting is compulsory in all government elections in the Northern Territory. The penalty for not voting in Territory elections is $25.
The Northern Territory Electoral Commission has this week commenced sending 21,000 apparent failure to vote infringement notices to Territorians who did not vote at the 2024 Territory Election.
The electoral expenditure return for the period from 1 January 2024 to 23 September 2024 was due on 23 October 2024.

Separate to election returns, registered political parties and associated entities must submit annual returns disclosing the amounts received and spent over the financial year as well as any outstanding debts. Returns disclosing gifts received in the financial year of 2023/2024 were published on 9 August 2024.
